Separation and divorce

Divide the house, the calendar and the budget at one table

For couples, married or not, who would rather decide this themselves than hand it to a judge.

Most people bring a parenting schedule, a support figure, the home, or all three. We take them one at a time, in the order that matters most to the two of you, and I write down each point as you settle it.

I don't take a side and I can't tell either of you what a court would do. What I can do is keep the conversation on the next decision and make sure each of you gets to finish a sentence.

What people usually bring

  • Parenting schedules, holidays and school changes

  • Child and spousal support figures

  • Who keeps the house, or who buys out whom

  • Retirement accounts, cars and shared debts

How it goes

Three steps from the first call to a signed page

  1. 01

Step 1: A private call with each of you

Fifteen minutes each, separately and free. I ask what's left to decide, what's already agreed and whether anyone is afraid to sit in the same room. If mediation isn't right, I'll say so.

  2. 02

    Step 2: The first session

Two hours at the table. We list every open point, put numbers on the ones that need them and settle the easy ones first.

  3. 03

Step 3: The summary, then your lawyers

You receive a written summary within two business days. In the Agreement package it becomes a memorandum of understanding that each of your lawyers can read before you sign.

Before you book

What separating couples ask first

Is mediation safe if we argue a lot?

Arguing is normal and I keep the room orderly. If either of you is afraid of the other, I'll hear that in the private calls and tell you honestly whether mediation, or another route, makes sense.

Can you file our paperwork with the court?

No. I can write the agreement you reach, and each of you can have a lawyer review it, but filing is done by you or your lawyers.

What about the kids?

Children aren't brought into the sessions. We plan the schedule, the holidays and the hand-offs, and you decide how to tell them.

Tell me what's left to decide

One short call with each of you, and you'll know the fee and the next step.

The first call is free and carries no obligation. Sessions are billed at the fee quoted in writing.
